Astrocartography

Where on Earth each planet was rising, setting, overhead or below at the moment you were born, drawn as lines on a world map, and which lines run near any place you pick.

Astrocartography needs a birth time: the lines move about 15° of longitude for every hour. Shares your details with the other chart pages, in this browser only.

Method

For your birth moment, each planet’s apparent right ascension and declination from Astronomy Engine. MC line: the longitudes where the planet was on the meridian, overhead; IC: the opposite meridian. ASC and DSC lines: the places where it was exactly on the eastern or western horizon (geocentric, no refraction, the usual astrocartography convention); they curve and meet the MC and IC lines in the far north or south. Checked against Astronomy Engine’s own horizon calculation: on every ASC or DSC point the planet’s altitude is zero. “Near”: within 1,000 km; within 300 km is marked strong, the distance most astrocartographers treat as the main influence. Map: Natural Earth (public domain). Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
